We're looking for a talented and creative person to help iFixit deliver excellent repair experiences. As a product design engineer, you'll be working alongside other engineers to ideate and create new repair products and procedures

Responsibilities:

  • Be a key engineering contributor in iFixit's innovation-driven NPI process.
  • Dive into the exciting consumer electronics repair industry, where you'll design advanced tools and parts that empower DIY enthusiasts.
  • Innovate by generating design options, solving challenges, and taking products from concept to launch.
  • Oversee product lifecycles, driving improvements and resolving issues.
  • Collaborate with quality and manufacturing teams for precision.
  • Create impactful design documentation, including proposals, memos, presentations, and RFQs.

Before applying you should possess:

  • A technical degree related to consumer product design, or convincing related experience
  • 2-5 years experience in a related field.
  • Computer Aided Engineering Skills, specifically 3D design (Autodesk Inventor preferred) and 2D design communication skills
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills

Candidates get bonus points for the following:

  • Industrial design generation and evidence of customer-focused engineering
  • Engineering Design Communication skills: RFQ Packages, design Documents (proposals, memos, presentations)
  • Knowledge of DFM and DFA methods and constraints. Ability to design for a variety of materials and processes.
  • Experience with product lifecycles, BOM management, revisions
  • Experience in consumer electronics design
  • Hands-on experience with tools and repair
