We're looking for a talented and creative person to help iFixit deliver excellent repair experiences. As a product design engineer, you'll be working alongside other engineers to ideate and create new repair products and procedures
Responsibilities:
- Be a key engineering contributor in iFixit's innovation-driven NPI process.
- Dive into the exciting consumer electronics repair industry, where you'll design advanced tools and parts that empower DIY enthusiasts.
- Innovate by generating design options, solving challenges, and taking products from concept to launch.
- Oversee product lifecycles, driving improvements and resolving issues.
- Collaborate with quality and manufacturing teams for precision.
- Create impactful design documentation, including proposals, memos, presentations, and RFQs.
Before applying you should possess:
- A technical degree related to consumer product design, or convincing related experience
- 2-5 years experience in a related field.
- Computer Aided Engineering Skills, specifically 3D design (Autodesk Inventor preferred) and 2D design communication skills
- Excellent spreadsheet skills
Candidates get bonus points for the following:
- Industrial design generation and evidence of customer-focused engineering
- Engineering Design Communication skills: RFQ Packages, design Documents (proposals, memos, presentations)
- Knowledge of DFM and DFA methods and constraints. Ability to design for a variety of materials and processes.
- Experience with product lifecycles, BOM management, revisions
- Experience in consumer electronics design
- Hands-on experience with tools and repair
