About iFixit

At iFixit, our mission is to empower and enable repair. We serve the population of the planet from the unique individual (all ages!) to governments to mega corporations. This mission is achieved through our 5 primary business units: Electronics Parts Sales, Specialized Tools Production and Sales, Professional Services, Advocacy/Lobbying, and Public Benefit. We have around 300 employees worldwide, with physical headquarters in California, Germany, and Tennessee (well, almost… TN is under construction).

The Situation

iFixit is just completing the discovery phase of a global ERP migration and is recruiting for an ERP Implementation Project Manager. We are migrating from numerous siloed and home-grown systems to Microsoft Business Central with numerous connectors, apps, and ISVs. This will be iFixit’s first global ERP. That said, we are a systems-based organization whose roots go back to a day before a good ERP was an option. So, we are currently a series of strategic hacks, numerous bandaids, countless spreadsheets, and some pretty great technologies that need to turn into our first global ERP.

The position requires working across our California and German offices on a semi-parallel, multi-phased implementation. The German office implementation is a crisis implementation with the current ERP system quickly failing (they are in pain… it is bad). The California office implementation will go-live second. California is the Mother Ship. The Mother Ship is complex. The Tennessee implementation will go-live last. There are no current operations in TN, pending completion of construction.

The coordination across the offices, business units, and the multiple systems, hacks, spreadsheets, and bandaids promises to be one of the most complex areas of the project. The position will work closely with the U.S. CFO, CTO, and COO as well as the E.U. Managing Director and E.U. ERP Implementation Team. We do not promise that working with all of these folks will be simple. While this position will report to iFixit California (the Mother Ship), the position coordinates heavily with iFixit Germany. iFixit Germany has an outstanding ERP implementation team, so that is pretty great.

The implementation, migration, and post-implementation work will be a full-time commitment for 4-5 years. During the implementation and migration phase, this position will perform all project management functions required to ensure a successful transition to Microsoft Business Central. Literally, you will be responsible for this project’s success.

Post-implementation, this position has the potential to transition to a Technical Project Manager role for other (really big) projects. It is also expected that this position will continue to support the evolution and development of Business Central, its integrations, and supplemental reporting and business intelligence systems, such as Power BI. We think you’ll probably want to stick around. It is a great place to work and we do a lot of fun things.

The position is based in the United States and can be remote. Preference will be given to candidates in the U.S. Eastern time zone. Frequent travel to California and Europe will be required.
