iFixit is hiring a leader to take our editorial team to the next level. We're looking for an editor and content strategist, and possibly even on-screen personality to inspire the world to repair.
Our staff is small, but we’re the vanguard of a global community that is redefining people’s relationship with their stuff. We teach normal people how to fix the things they own—from the simple (like busted seams) to the complicated (like smart watches). We do it because we believe that repair empowers people to take control of their hardware, teaches them what’s going on inside their gadgets, and encourages them to keep things in use and out of the landfill.
Our YouTube and our email newsletter are increasingly successful, and we’re searching for a leader who can take the helm and inspire us to new heights of effectiveness. Our teardowns and repair scores have influenced product design and inspired regulations from Brussels to Washington. What’s next? How can we create content that motivates the world to repair?
This isn’t just about consumer rights and the Right to Repair, either. We’re looking to fundamentally change the way people view their gadgets: not as disposable silicon that gets replaced when a new version comes to market, but as a long-lasting tool that can be repaired, improved, and loved instead of going to an ever-expanding landfill. If we all committed to buying used devices, extending their lives with simple repairs, and recycling them when we’re done, humanity would generate less e-waste (and we’d all have a few more dollars in our pocket).
iFixit is the largest online repair resource, teaching millions of people every month how to believe in themselves and repair things they didn’t know they could. Our step-by-step repair manuals and troubleshooting forums have set the gold-standard for online repair documentation. We also make the best darn precision repair tools in the world. Our resources, tools, and fix kits have helped people in every country in the world repair their own devices.
We work in every medium that’s effective, from writing op-eds to deep dives on gadget obsolescence to video teardowns and explainers. Our team is competent and driven.
Job Responsibilities
Our ideal candidate not only has killer editorial chops but also is enthusiastic about representing iFixit on camera. On YouTube, iFixit is known for expertise, and you’ll become a repair expert (if you’re not one already).

Benefits:
iFixit is an awesome place to work. Here are some of our perks:
Local or Relocation-Flexible Candidates Preferred:
We're open to flexible and hybrid arrangements, but ideally we are looking for someone who can be local to our San Luis Obispo offices. Because so much of our content creation involves physical things—taking things apart, fixing things—it is important to have an editorial director who can have their (live, in person) finger on our work, at least some of the time.
Diversity:
When you go to a website like iFixit and scroll through the guides, it’s easy to forget that there are tons of real people keeping all those bits and bytes running smoothly. But there are literally dozens of us. We’re an incredibly diverse team, split between two continents—but we’re united by a love of tinkering and repair.
iFixit is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. Because we are trying to teach everyone to fix every thing, we need a team as diverse as our online community. We believe that it takes people of all backgrounds to help us fix the world. Therefore, iFixit does not discriminate based upon race, religion, color, national origin, gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, status as a protected veteran, status as an individual with a disability, or any of the other important characteristics that make us unique and valuable.
iFixit is committed to creating a diverse team—not only in who we hire—but through creating a supportive environment for all of our team members based on mutual respect and inclusivity.
At iFixit, we require all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If the position requires you to work in the office, you will be expected to follow all CA mask rules and mandates.
To apply: Send us a PDF of your resume and a PDF cover letter explaining why you’re the best person for this position.
