iFixit's staff is the focal point of a global community showing people how to fix the things they own. We believe that we can make the world better by empowering people to take control of their hardware.

We are the world's foremost experts on Apple repair, and we've set the gold-standard for online repair documentation. We have already helped millions of people fix their own devices, and we plan to help tens of millions more.

We're looking for an experienced Service Technician/Repair Mechanic to join in our repair effort by creating unparalleled repair guides for power tools, yard equipment, and much more. The ideal candidate is versed in power equipment repair and maintenance and enjoys sharing repair knowledge with others. The position is a seasonal, part-time contract with an intended end date, however, extensions may be possible.

As the ideal candidate, you should:

  • Enjoy getting your hands dirty! You probably have a toolbox at home or in your car, and while you love having the right tool for the job, you've made-do on more than one occasion.
  • Enjoy fixing lawnmowers, power tools, and maintenance equipment. You’ll be swapping out drive axles on tillers, changing out arbors on walk-behind saws, and replacing belts on brush mowers, just to give you an idea. Know how to deal with seized bearings, stuck bolts, and sheared screws without breaking the equipment.
  • Enjoy working with people and communicating precisely and accurately. You should know the difference between precision and accuracy.
  • Be self-sufficient, confident, reliable.

This position is available immediately at our downtown San Luis Obispo office. Remote opportunities are not available for this position. Prior work as a mechanic or repair person is a plus, but not necessary, neither is any specific degree.

Diversity:

When you go to a website like iFixit and scroll through the guides, it's easy to forget that there are tons of real people keeping all those bits and bytes running smoothly. But there are literally dozens of us! We're a diverse team, split between two continents--but we're united by a love of tinkering and repair.

Fixit is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. Because we are trying to teach every one to fix every thing, we need a team as diverse as our online community. We believe that it takes people of all backgrounds to help us fix the world. Therefore, iFixit does not discriminate based upon race, religion, color, national origin, gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, status as a protected veteran, status as an individual with a disability, or any of the other important characteristics that make us unique and valuable.

iFixit is committed to creating a diverse team--not only in who we hire--but through creating a supportive environment for all of our team members based on mutual respect and inclusivity.

To apply: Send us a PDF of your resume as well as a PDF cover letter explaining two things: why you're badass, and why you're the ideal candidate for this job.
